Studio Roso - Telstar

Telstar is a 35’, 17 tonne mirror polished stainless steel sculpture by Studio Roso installed next to the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, home to Atlanta United and the Atlanta Falcons.

The giant sculpture, based on the iconic football design by Adidas, consists of 350 polished stainless steel panels forming 121 facets on the surface. These are mounted on aluminium and composite frames, all suspended on a galvanised steel structure.

Other Fabrications worked with Studio Roso on the initial design, material selection and feasibility, and then developed the structural design and system with engineers Atelier One, to be finally signed off by Georgia based engineers Buro Happold. The sculpture was built entirely at our workshop in London and shipped to Atlanta in three 40’ sea containers. The Other Fabrications team installed the sculpture in three phases through the summer of 2018, working closely with Darden and Co, the main contractor for the stadium build.
