Dreamachine is a touring installation based around an immersive experience involving stroboscopic lighting and 360º spatial sound, which triggers vivid, colourful illusions behind the closed eyes of the viewer. Initially shown in Woolwich Market, London and the Temple of Peace in Cardiff, the two editions of the project then travel to Edinburgh and Belfast as part of Unboxed festival.
We were involved in the project from early on, asked to design and build a large scale prototype setup in East London for the rigorous process of focus group testing and design development.
James was appointed as Design Manager for the project, working with the management team, architects, engineers, technical and production teams to develop a feasible final design, assess venues, manage budget and suppliers and taking the project through fabrication and first installation. Other Fabrications also acted as design consultant for many aspects of the Dreamachine itself, and built several of the main components both in house and on site in London.
